FAQs About Eye & Vision Care at Moody Eyes

eye glasses on eye chart in Indianapolis Optometrist office

Have questions about your vision or eye health? Trust us, we've heard it before! Here are a few of our most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

How often should I have an eye exam?

We recommend an exam once or twice a year, although if you have chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, you may want to get checked more often.

What happens at an exam and how long will it take?

In general, an eye exam involves a few painless tests that take about a hour. The eye doctor may perform a visual acuity test, using common eye charts, to measure your vision. Our eye doctors also may use a cover test to check your ability to focus and follow movement. You may have to look through a series of lenses to determine your prescription. The eye doctor also may use specialized lamps to see the physical structure of the eyes to detect diseases such as cataracts or macular degeneration.

What should I bring to my eye exam?

All patients should bring:

  • Medical and/or vision insurance cards and HSA card (if you have them)
  • All current eyeglasses and sunglasses (prescription or not)
  • The names of your medical doctors
  • A list of any diseases for which you are receiving treatment, and past surgeries
  • A list of current medications, including vitamins and herbal supplements

If you wear contact lenses, you should also bring:

  • Current contact lens boxes or foil covers
  • The name of your contact solutions

Will my eyes be dilated?

At Moody Eyes, we can use the EasyScan system to see details of your retina without dilating your pupils! In just three minutes, we can tell whether our patients have diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and many other issues.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most insurers, including:

  • VSP (Vision Service Plan)
  • Eyemed
  • Aetna
  • Anthem (including Anthem Blue)
  • Davis Vision
  • Spectera – United Health

We also accept standard health insurance for certain procedures, as well as Medicare or Medicaid. Check with your carrier about your coverage, and contact our office with any questions. We may charge co-payments or deductibles. Our website also features online coupons and special offers!

How do I decide between contact lenses and eyeglasses?

For most patients, deciding between contacts and glasses is simply a matter of personal preference. Eyeglasses are easier to clean, but contacts provide better peripheral vision and won't get in the way of many activities or styles. If you can't decide, ask our eye care experts for recommendations!

How long does it take to get my glasses?

Many patients can get their new prescription glasses on the same day as their exam! However, it will depend on your prescription and vision insurance.

Whether you need a standard eye exam or have serious health concerns, Moody Eyes combines experience and convenience to provide specialized care for your needs. For service from one of our optometrists in Indianapolis, call or use our convenient online form today!

Testimonial

Very, very satisfied with my visit! I recently moved to Indianapolis and needed to get some new glasses and try contacts for the first time. The office was easy to make appointments with, and the doctor (Amy) was EXTREMELY friendly and knowledgeable. I was able to get the contacts I needed, as well as lenses put into a pair of glasses I purchased online. -- All at an affordable price.
