The eyes are said to be windows to the soul. More than that, though, they are also clues to your overall health. As a leading provider of eye care in Indianapolis, we believe that regular eye exams are a vital component of preventive health maintenance. That’s why we’re excited to announce our acquisition of a revolutionary equipment that delivers accurate examinations in the blink of an eye: the EasyScan retinal imaging system.

The retina is a light-sensitive tissue lining located at the back of the eyes. When light passes through the eyes, the retina focuses it and conveys the image formed to the brain via the optical nerve. With the help of the EasyScan system, optometrists can take detailed snapshots of your retina to uncover conditions that are omens of serious diseases. In just three minutes, our patients will know if their retina suffers from diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and a host of other retinal problems.

In order to provide fast but accurate imaging, the EasyScan uses a cutting-edge technology called scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) technology. In this system, a narrow beam of laser scans the surface of the eye. A detector captures the reflected light and uses it to create a real-time image of the retina on a monitor.

This method creates images with greater contrast than those produced by traditional fundus cameras used in eye exams. Since the equipment can be hooked up to PCs, the retinal scans can also be saved in different image formats such as JPEG, BMP and TIFF for easy filing.

Furthermore, using the EasyScan is a pain-free experience—just position your face in front of the device and it will perform the scan automatically. There is also no need to dilate the pupils before the scan can proceed. Thanks to the system’s advanced technology, it can take precise images at a minimum pupil size of 1.5 mm. In fact, it can even scan through mild or moderate cataracts.

Adding the EasyScan to our practice is part of our mission to provide top-notch care to all our patients. If you need a reliable Indianapolis eye exam, just drop by our Greenwood office to experience the convenience offered by the EasyScan retinal imaging system.
