Symptoms of Dry Eye Treated By Your Optometrist in Indianapolis

Computer users may experience frequent bouts of dry eye from the time spent staring at the screen. We know that computer users blink infrequently, which dries out the eye. Other people get dry eye when their tear glands become blocked and fail to adequately moisturize the eyes.

While anyone can get dry eye syndrome, the condition is more common among older adults and women, especially post-menopause.

If your eyes look red or feel dry, itchy, or sensitive to light, you could have dry eye syndrome. Some people also feel like something is stuck in their eyes. If you experience any of these symptoms, the first step is to visit our optometrists in Indianapolis, who can make a diagnosis and recommend treatment.

Finding Dry Eye Treatment

Our eye doctor will examine your eyes and ask about symptoms to make a diagnosis of dry eye.

Moving on from diagnosis, we provide dry eye relief through medication and lifestyle suggestions. If we think heavy computer use exacerbates your symptoms, we may suggest you try computer vision glasses. These block glare from the computer screen, cutting down on dry eye symptoms.

For medication, we usually begin with eye drops that moisturize the eyes. We may recommend over-the-counter or prescription drops, depending on the severity of your symptoms.  If we believe your tear glands are blocked, so moisture does not reach the eye, we can remove the blockage.  If that does not fix the issue, we may insert a tear duct plug. This keeps moisture from draining out of your eyes, to reduce dryness.

Testimonial

Very, very satisfied with my visit! I recently moved to Indianapolis and needed to get some new glasses and try contacts for the first time. The office was easy to make appointments with, and the doctor (Amy) was EXTREMELY friendly and knowledgeable. I was able to get the contacts I needed, as well as lenses put into a pair of glasses I purchased online. -- All at an affordable price.
